When I was younger I had a dog named Nike. He was a German Short-Hair or also called a pointer. The German short-hair is well known for its hunting abilities. My dad and I would take Nike out to to our farm and he would scare all kinds of birds out of the bushes so my dad and I could hunt easily. When Nike got older he developed cancer in his back legs so he couldn't run very well anymore so hence he couldn't hunt anymore. This was not a big deal to anyone in the family because we loved him not for his hunting abilities but for being loyal to us. This kind of reminds me of the Kiowa legend when the dog becomes a loyal friend to the Indians.
