When I was young and living on the farm, I was at home with my older sister, Rhonda. Our parents were gone at the time so we were home alone. The sky was changing from gray to purple to dark blue to almost black. I was fascinated watching it from out living room window. My sister shouted at me to get to the basement because she didn’t like how the wind was sounding. We ran to the basement and huddled in the corner. After a time, Rhonda went upstairs and yelled down to me, “Lisa! The barn is gone!” I was sure that she was joking with me. I came upstairs and sure enough…when I looked out the window I could see that our large barn was gone and there was nothing left but a foundation and a mess of broken boards! That was as close as I have ever been to a tornado! |
