Piggy is one of the smartest kids on the island. Ralph goes to him at times to get advise and decide what to do because Ralph didn't know how to be a leader. Piggy gets left behind with the little ones when Ralph and Jack go to find out what was the "monster from the air."
He always tries to do stuff the old way by talking when holding the conch and trying to call meetings.
Piggy eventually dies when he is trying to get the kids that have gone over to Jack's tribe to come back to Ralph's side. He has the conch and yells that Jack is a savage and uncivilized and that Ralph is sensible and a safe choice. Jack chucks a rock a Piggy, hitting him in the chin and eventually falling over onto the rocks forty feet below him.
