Ralph's Relationship with Others...

Ralph's relationship with:

Jack:  Ralph and Jack don't get along very well from the beginning of the book.  At the beginning of Lord of the Flies, Jack wants to be leader, but everyone votes for Ralph because he has the conch, which is a symbol of leadership.  Toward the end of the book Jack splits off into his own group and the boys follow because they obviously haven't been saved under Ralph's leadership.

Simon:  Ralph and Simon get along fairly well in the book, and Simon sticks with Ralph until he is killed by Jack's group of people.  Jack's tribe kills Simon because they think that he is the beast that lurks at night and lives in the mountains.

Piggy:  Piggy and Ralph meet at the beginning of the book and Ralph is mean to Piggy by calling him fat and trying to ignore him because Piggy is "annoying."  Piggy seems to trust Ralph and they end up sticking together from the beginning.  Piggy's glasses are a symbol in the book also, they are used to start the signal fire.  The problem is that only one "tribe" is able to use the glasses and when Piggy's glasses get broken what are they going to do.

Samneric:  Sam and Eric, also known as Samneric, are twins.  Sam and Eric are some of the hunters, and they also go to fetch wood later on.  Samneric are the ones who see the "beast from air" which ends up being a parachutist that has been shot down during the war that is going on in the "real world."
