Picture a big scary pirate ship crossing the great lake of Yankton. as it crosses, a great trail of fog is brought with it. The fog took over the lake and the surrounding land. As the row boats came toward me, I was saying to myself “I need to run away”, but I was just too scared.  Horns of horror were tooted as they came closer and closer. Finally I could see the whites of their eyes in the dark night. As I turned to run, I was tackled to the ground. They took me the see the caption. I spite, bit, clawed and sobbed as they dragged me to the captain’s office. He was sitting in a big chair with his back to me. He started to say, “I can be kind hearted but play me a fool, and I will become the grim reaper

I was thinking about his voice more than what he was saying it. Was so much like some one I knew. He turned around, and my sobbing turned into a huge grin. It was Patches the Pirate. He was a friend.

I made him up when I was three. We were slaying the dragons from the great Mississippi river.  One of the dragons ate him. But now is not time to tell you that story, the important thing is that he came back to get me so we could go on a greater voyage. He told me he needed my help at the battle of the Black Sea. I said: “I’ll help you as long as I am home before nine, that was my bed time”. He told me it would take till eight: no need to worry.

It took a whole minute to get there: back then that was a long time to be at sea.  The sea monsters we were to fight were so ugly they could break a mirror with a smile. I got really scared. This is when patches told me, “fear is just a thought, if you don’t think it you don’t feel it “. So I tried it and it worked. The battle raged all day and night; we were down to five men and a pirate. The next day we stared to chase the sea monsters into the ocean. That meant we won. The whole three men on deck were so happy that it was over. So was I. the only bad thing that happened was I was late.

Once I told my mom what I was doing, she wasn’t mad that I was late. She said “she was just glad I didn’t get hurt”. As I got older we lost each other we quit writing each other I guess we grew apart.
