Love Stories

Love stories have been around forever and you may even have a love story of your own. People see different things in love and what love means to them. Love stories interest me more then anything else. I’m not sure if it’s the mushy stuff or just reading about the amazing things that happen to people and how they share it with the person who means the most to them. They say true love never ends, if it is meant to be to it will be there forever. So I see that in true love there is a beginning but never an end.

My passion is obviously about love. Not just love but love stories, books, and even films. I think I really started to get hooked on the whole love topic when I watched the movie The Notebook. I am into the whole scene where you sit and say "oooh, that’s so cute!" All in all love interests me and all the different ways to look at it.

The book I read for my report was called No Shame, No Fear. It was written by Ann Turnbull and was a fantastic love story. The romance in the book is between a Quaker, Susanna, and a merchant’s son, Will. The books chapters went back and forth from it being Will’s life and his point of view to Susanna’s life and her point of view. It really shows how each character likes each other. During the time of them being together Will changes his life and became a Quaker himself. The Convective Act was passed around the same time. The act banned all religious meetings except Anglican Church services. At the end you will see the struggle with their communities and their faith. This was a very good love story. I really liked how it shows the two people from totally opposite lifestyles can be so much alike and so much in love.

The very first love story written was in 1970. It was called Love Story; it was such an original name. The most famous line in this story was "Love means never having to say you are sorry". This was the number thirteen movie quote by American Film Institute. This fantastic love story won an Oscar eleven times and had thirteen other nominations. This was a top book right next to Romeo and Juliet. Love Story was written by Erich Segal.

A lot of romance authors are mostly women. Some examples are Betty Jo Tucker, Heather Graham, and Michelle Moran. All those authors write different kinds of love stories. For example Michelle Moran is a historical love story writer. Again the novel Love Story is one of the most famous books ever written, even today. It’s simply about a rich man and poor women. The man’s parents are obviously against the marriage. The couple marries anyway. The man graduates and finds a good job. They end up having to seek professional help to have children. The wife soon started to suffer from a horrible kind of cancer called leukemia and is too weak and soon passes away. The man is soon reunited with his family once again. A few other good romance novels are Dream Man, Nobody’s Baby but mine, and It had to be you. All of those novels were written by Susan Elizabeth Phillips.

There is a lot of difference between romance novels now and how they were in the eighties. In the eighties the man was a tycoon, banker, rancher, or something with all the money. He is usually the age of thirty five. The women were a nurse, secretary, governess, or a house keeper. The women were also way younger then the man and she never had any money. Now the man is always a trouble shooter, TV journalist, or a professor. He is usually the same age, thirty five. One thing that does not really change is the man still has all the money. A huge thing that does change is the women are just as powerful and wealthy as the man. The women are usually older, and between the ages of twenty six and thirty five years old. A lot of kissing or intimate scenes are now right in the beginning and all through out the book. In the eighties the romance was usually the last couple of pages. Back then "sex" was a big deal. I think a lot has changed since then, and I am guessing that even more will be changing.

Learning about love can go two different ways. You may think it’s the sickest thing in the world or the best thing that has ever happened to you. You may not have your own love story quite yet, but trust me, it will most likely happen. Love has changed a lot through out the years and probably still will. Love stories can make you cry, laugh, or even both. Like I said before true love has a beginning, but never has an end.
