When the average person thinks nerd, glasses and high-waisted pants immediately come to mind. Piggy certainly does not help this stero-typicality. Piggy has ass-mar (aka asthma) and tells the others who are stranded with him his auntie forbids him for running. The other boys on the island mistake Piggy's inability to do everyday tasks as laziness.
After the boys are first stranded on the island, Piggy is one of the few boys who
remains dressed. When the plane crashed he was wearing a grubby wind-
breaker. He was extremely pale and sweat profusely while performing simple
tasks. Overall, Piggy was the most humble and patient of the boys.
Piggy's most important attribute are his glasses. His glasses are a symbol of the power and intellectual aspect in society. The glasses are significant from the beginning of the novel, when the boys use the glasses to create their first fire on the deserted island. Throughout the book, the lenses are imperative to keeping the fire alive, which Ralph and Piggy feel is necessary to send a smoke signal in order to be rescued.
