Piggy is extremely misunderstood. No matter what he does and who he is with, everyone thinks he is simply slow and rather stupid. In the duration of Lord of the Flies, Piggy begins to prove to everyone that he is completely capable of thinking and communicating his findings with the other inhabitants of the island. Piggy has very few friends on the deserted island as most of the boys feel he is a non-entity. But, Piggy continually proves everyone wrong, and creates a major friendship with his fellow islander Ralph. When first stranded on the island, Ralph tries not to associate himself with Piggy but in the end he is forced to realize Piggy is the main reason all of the boys are still alive.
Piggy's family is small in numbers. His mother and father both died in a horrendous car accident when Piggy was just two years old. Ever since his second birthday, Piggy has lived with his Auntie whom he loves unconditionally. His Auntie, June, owns a candy shop and has recruited Piggy to help her with everyday tasks.
