Important Person

Andrea Maxine McManus

Knowing a person for most of your elementary years and not being able to see that person when you move away is really hard for a fourth grader. I lost one of my best friends then, and it was hard for me. I hardly ever got to see her, and I missed her.

My first grade year I was walking down my drive way on the first day of the year. I just kind of figured that the people on the bus would be the same. When I got on, there were people gone, and there were new people on the bus. I was wondering what are they doing here and how come they were on my bus. When I got the spot where I usually sat the year before, there was a girl in it. I thought that she took my spot to be mean, but when I asked her to sit with her, she said that that was fine. So I sat with her and we talked.

When we got to school, we had to go our separate ways. I soon figured out that she was a grade younger then me, and that we wouldn’t get to see each other. But then recess came, and I saw that she was out on the playground. I told all my friends that we should go talk to her and play with her. At the end of recess we had to go back to our class.

I couldn’t wait until the end of the day when we got to get on the bus. The end of the day couldn’t come fast enough! But when the end of the day did come, I was so excited. Bus people get out of school early so that they can drop the kids off and get back to town at a decent time. So when we did get out of school, I looked for her, and we walked together to the bus. When we got on the bus, we talked about our days and what we like to do. It didn’t seem like the bus ride was long enough. She got dropped off first, and I didn’t know what to think. I couldn’t wait until the next day.

Now me and Andrea are still best friends. But moving to Yankton, put a little damper on our friendship. We never got to see each other. But recently we got back to being best friends, and we hang out all the time. I knew that from the day that I met that girl that I was going to be best friends with her for ever!
