Trout vs. Salmon River

News Article

This is the biggest game for Trout, and also for Salmon River; whoever wins this game will go on to the state championship game. Salmon River beat Connelly sixty-three to six. The reason for the big win against Connelly is because Salmon has got a new transfer from down in California; his name is Washington. He scored six touch downs in the Connelly game, and Washington was quarterback.

Salmon River won the toss and elected to receive. Trout kicked it off; and the new kid Washington ran it back for a touchdown. Nobody has ever done that to Trout in their four years of football. The coach of trout, Lednecky, went nuts on the sideline. Then Salmon River kicked off; Carter caught the ball and got some pretty good field position. Carter started with some short passes to the flats and then pitched out to Boomer on their forty for a thirty yard gain. Carter went on and tied the score. They traded two more touchdowns before the half, but they failed to convert on one of the touchdowns. Now the score was 21-20, and it was halftime.

The second half started, and Salmon River kicked off. Carter received the kickoff but couldn’t get anywhere or anything on the first set of downs, and Boomer then punted the ball. He blasted a high, soaring spiral all the way to their fifteen yard line, and it bounced out of bounds on the nine yard line. Then Washington went to work. Washington completed a couple of short passes and ran options to midfield. On the third yard line he went right to the short side of the field, looking for the long pass. Boomer then blitzed through the other side and zeroed in on Washington. Just as he released the ball, Boomer came in and tackled him hard, really hard. Washington fell into the bench. Salmon River players scattered when they saw it coming.

A kid name Louie Banks shouted at the refs saying, "did you see that?" The coach pulled him aside, and whispered something in his ear. Louie then picked up his helmet and yelled, "are you kidding me, I wouldn’t play another down of Trout football if you were holding my mother hostage! That was a setup, and you know it." Lednecky whispered in his ear again, and then Louie just walked of the field. Washington was on a stretcher being put into the back of Doc Hamilton’s Ford station wagon. After they carried Washington off, and Salmon River lost their punch, Trout scored a couple of quick ones, and won the game.
