| The people are tired of eating grass. They want to eat something else so they have Coyote go and steal the fire. He makes his journey in the middle of the night to find the fire with a cedar stick attached to his tail. There is a Snake at the first door. He hesitates but silently slips by him. Coyote comes to the second door, where Cougar was sleeping there like a kitten. He quietly slips by again. The last and final door was the door with the fire in it and Bear was guarding the door. Bear is sound asleep. Coyote sneaks by him and lights his cedar stick on fire and sneaks back out. Spider woke up and asked, "Who is there?" Coyote panics and runs outside through the woods and escaped with the fire. The tribe members are waiting there for the fire and Coyote returns with it. Now they cook their deer and other meat. |
