There are only a few turning points in my life, but for the most recent life changing moment in my teenage years would be when my dog died around a month ago. This was a life changing moment because just that day before we were taking pictures of her, and then the next morning we had school. I mean this dog was the baby of the family. She was just about a year and a half old. The story went a little something like this.
It was Monday morning at about 6:30 a.m, and I asked my mom if she could wake me up early because I had homework. So she woke me up at about 6. So it was just me and my mom and my dog named Lexie. I was working on some geometry when my mom asked me if I wanted some coffee, and I said just a little please. So I’m sitting there, and now my dad woke up, and it was about 7:30. He let Lexie out, and she was not on her leash. My dad left, and he saw her because at that time we were looking for her. Now it was 7:45, and my mom goes outside and yells for her to come back and come inside. My mom looks at me and says she’s running 90 mph. But she stopped because she was playing with her friend named Maddie. My dog Lexie always comes when there are treats involved. My mom graps a treat, and lexie started to run home, but there was snow on the sidewalk and, she didn’t want to get cold. So she took the street, but once she went on the street at that same time a car drove by Then my mom started screaming that lexie has been hit by a car so, I yelled a naughty word and ran to find her in my bare feet with just shorts on.
I looked around the corner and there she lay. I picked her up and started my way back to my house. I was crying and talking to her and telling her she’s going to be fine. As I’m running with her in my hands, the person who hit jumped out and asked if he could do anything. no one said anything. By this time my brother and sister were up, and they both were bawling and screaming. My soon to be neighbors saw what happened, and they offered to drive her down to the vet. So without hesitation we jumped in the truck, and while lexie was in my mom’s arms, she took her last breaths. Then we all just started bawling.
After this all happened my whole family was in shock. Even all my neighbors were crying. "That’s when you know that dog was loved", said my mom. I stayed home and grieved that day.
This was a life changing moment for me because it showed me that life is very fragile. Even though it was just a dog, they are truly man’s best friends.
