
In the summer of 1872, there was a very unusual waterspout seen in Wanlockhead. Its shape resembled that of a long serpent, dropping to touch the mountain tops and then spirals upward to the black clouds above. A black cloud appeared over the Stake Moss Hill where witches were once burned at stake. All of a sudden there was a terrific blast like thunder, and it touched down on earth. Later on, it was discovered a waterspout had burst on the Lowther Mountains
