The Pegasus Myth The Pegasus myth is about highly amusing horse named Pegasus. This horse is magical because it has wings. In the myth Perseus cuts of the head of Medusa. When the blood of Medusa hit the foam of the sea, Pegasus was formed. Pegasus quickly fell of to the mountain were the Muses lived. When he landed on the earth his hooves opened a clear spring of water. This later became the "Horses Fountain," which gave out poetic inspiration. After the goddess Athene gave Bellerophon a golden bridle he was able to capture Pegasus. This making Bellerophon the only hero to ride the winged horse. Pegasus and Bellerophon rode into many battles; one is the battle with the Chimera. Because of these battles they both became famous and prosperous when the gods were on their side. Not thinking Bellerophon attempted to ride Pegasus to Mount Olympus to visit the gods. Zeus becoming upset and sent a gadfly to sting Pegasus, which made him throw Bellerophon off. Zeus then claimed Pegasus and used him to carry his thunderbolts for some time. Unfortunately the flying horse was never cut out to be a beast of burden, even for the king of the gods. Eventually Zeus set him free, and Pegasus flew to the night and became a constellation among the stars.
