How does this class seem different from other English classes you've had in the past?

P. Schulze's sophomore comp. class differs from any other English class that I have taken in the way that it IS indeed on the computer. I like the fact that almost one-hundred percent of our work is done on the computer. So far, this class has taught me how to set up a website using Microsoft Front Page, which I didn't even learn how to do in a previously taken computer class. Another difference from other English classes is that, so far, most work is independent and we don't always have a teacher breathing down our neck during every move while class is going on. The class homework is graded by us, the students, sending it by our school e-mails to P. Schulze and the grades are sent back to us. Even though the work is mostly independent thus far, our teacher is always there to help if somewhere along the way, we got behind or even that we didn't understand the concept.

Why is it important for you to have created and maintain a web page in school?

School web pages allow students to keep up with the growing technology of our society. Thanks to this opportunity, we are able to interact with not only people in our class, but anyone who views our website. Our websites give people a chance to view our opinions as students. Also, student-maintained web sites give parents and other adults to keep-up on what their children are doing in school. If I could, I would do a website in every class!

If you had more time to work on your web page, what would you change or improve about it and why?

If I had more time to work on my webpage, I would most likely add pictures. Pictures or graphics would enhance my website and make it twenty times better than it already is. Also, I would possibly add personal journal entries or maybe even work that I have done in the past.

Even though you are too young to vote, it won’t be long. You should be aware of what is going on in the world and in our country. So, I want you to write a five paragraph journal entry explaining who you would vote for for president if you were able to, and give three good reasons why.  In case you don’t know, the people still in the race are Republicans John McCain and Mike Huckabee and Democrats Hilary Clinton and Barack Obama.

If you were to ask me if I am a democrat or republican, I would have no idea what to answer. Frankly, I don't even know what the differences are.  If I had to pick one candidate, however, it would be John McCain. Reasons for this are that I have my reasons for not picking Hilary Clinton, John McCain has beliefs that I agree with, and also, he is working on issues that the average Joe doesn't have time for.
First of all, I have nothing personal against Hilary Clinton. I really don't even know a portion of her campaign or plans. Not siding with Clinton is more part of my personal goals. Ever since I was younger, I've had a ridiculous goal of being the first woman president. I'm almost positive that a female will get there before I even reach the age limit, but rooting for her is like stomping on my own dreams. By all means though, best of luck to her.
John McCain has campaign issues that I agree with, therefore, I am rooting for him. If you were to go to his website, his ideas are clearly stated for anyone and everyone to see. This is a characteristic of honesty and trust. Also, some of his ideas include border control, tax cuts, health care, national security, the second amendment, and other issues. These several topics listed are some that I agree with as well.
Last, the issues that McCain has looked into aren't what all the other candidates are looking into necessarily. For example, the environment has been a big issue lately with global warming but not all candidates have had big news regarding it. On McCain's official campaign website, there is a section about the environment including several references including a previous president, Roosevelt. This example, out of many, have caught my attention while regarding the running for office process.
If I were able to vote, John McCain would be the candidate checked on my ballot. He would be because McCain is not Hilary Clinton, He has beliefs that I agree with, and he has time for unusual aspects of campaigning. Also, if I were old enough to vote, I would hopefully be more informed and involved with voting and politics themselves.

What steps have you taken to revise the work you have published on your web? Why did you decide to make these revisions?
In order to revise my work on my webpage, I have worked on it at home. When I am at home, I can concentrate a lot better and I often times get a lot more accomplished than I would if I were at school. I also plan to add a lot more pictures in order to enhance my website and give viewers a better image of what they are reading about.

Do you feel more confident now than you did at the beginning of the year about any of your skills: computer? writing? reading? Explain.

As far as confidence goes, I don't think that has changed anything. Everything I do, I do with confidence. Even though my confidence is the same however, my skills have definitely improved. I am now more literate on the computer and I am able to do more with such things as Microsoft FrontPage and researching on the internet.

Writing collaboratively can be challenging and rewarding. Write about your experience writing with another person.

Writing with a person can be difficult at times. When one person thinks one opinion, the other person or persons may not agree. Working on your lonesome allows a person to gather their thoughts and put them how the person thinks that they should go without having to worry about the other person disagreeing. At other times, it is fun to hear other people's inputs on certain topics. Depending upon the assignment, it works a lot better to be able to bounce one's ideas off of another individual. From a common quote, 'Two minds are better than one.' This may be true in some cases, like I mentioned, but in others it may be just the opposite. All in all, it just depends on the assignment whether it works better with one person or in a group of two or more people.

End of the Year Reflection

Sophomore Comp. has taught me a great deal of lessons this year. I have acquired new skills that can be used in the future. I have found things I enjoy to do and other things that I don't like so much. There also were some things that I realized that I should have taken more seriously.
This year I have learned that I have a love for poetry. I have always liked poetry but this year has taught me that it is easier to write poetry with a prompt. Not just a prompt, but reading other people's poetry inspires me and gives me new ideas to put together in a poem form. I learned that there are all different kinds of poetry that I really enjoy.
In the beginning of the semester when we started this class, I sort of questioned making a web page. To be honest, I thought that it would be harder than it really was. I thought that there was no way that it could end up being this cool and looking so nice. I also liked how we were able to add some of our own spunk to our pages to make them fit our personalities. I liked how I was able to add some photography from home and add it to something that I did as a project at school,
As a requirement to pass this class, each student had to find research, put it together in a paper, and site our sources within and outside of the paper. I hade a mindset that this paper would be very easy but I found out that I was wrong. Gathering the information was probably the hardest part of the whole paper. Once the information was gathered from numerous sources, putting the ideas together was very simple.
My favorite part of this class was being able to interact with our peers and bounce ideas off of each other while doing assignments. We were able to do this without getting in trouble for talking or laughing too loud. I enjoyed being able to work independently but also being able to ask someone's opinion if I wanted it.
In conclusion, I really enjoyed this class. I got along with all of my classmates and my teacher very well. The assignments, I have realized that whether I liked them or not, taught me a lesson about things that have to be done in daily life.
