I would like to recognize Jamie VanWinkle as the YEA Teacher of the Year because:
I would like to nominate Jamie VanWinkle as Teacher of the Year. Jamie has twenty one years of teaching experience in our district. She excelled as a second grade classroom teacher for twelve years before becoming a Reading Recovery teacher for the last nine years. Jamie completed her Masters degree in Reading and continues to enhance her knowledge with professional development throughout the school year and summers.
Jamie is a loving and compassionate teacher who makes a difference in the life of each student she encounters. She has the respect and admiration of students, parents, and colleagues. Her professionalism, integrity and positive attitude make her very refreshing and inspiring to be around.
Jamie has further demonstrated her commitment to teaching by serving on many professional committees (listed above), as well as holding offices, throughout her twenty one years as a teacher. She is very active in the Yankton community, serving on church committees and boards, being a confirmation guide, Sunday school teacher, and the City Pool Task Force. As Jamie’s two children become more involved in their activities, she can be seen with them volunteering her services as needed.
Jamie sets a standard for young teachers and continues to be a positive role model for professional peers and students alike. I feel that Jamie’s ongoing dedication to education, active role in the community, church and profession make her a qualified and deserving candidate for YEA Teacher of the Year.
